Byte into STEM Scholarship
Deadline: October 8, 2025-Amount of scholarship-$2,500
Financial barriers stand between many students and their dreams, presenting an obstacle that students with family resources don’t have to worry about.
Black students in particular can feel disconnected from STEM, due to both monetary struggles and a lack of representation in the field. Creating a more inclusive workforce and bolstering the perspectives present in STEM industries requires building a pipeline that fosters a passion for STEM in Black learners and empowers them to pursue higher education in the field.
This scholarship seeks to support Black learners pursuing STEM across traditional and non-traditional pathways so they can overcome any hurdles they face.
Any Black high school senior, undergraduate, graduate student, boot camp participant, or student in a certificate program may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they’re pursuing STEM in the U.S. and if they show community service involvement, preferably within the STEM community.
There will be three winners selected for this scholarship, each receiving a different award. First, the Gigabyte Award ($2,500) is for a student with major tuition expenses pursuing a STEM degree at a college, university, or high-cost boot camp. Next, the Megabyte Award ($1,250) is for learners pursuing STEM through non-traditional education, such as lower-cost boot camps, online certifications, or continuing education courses for professionals. Finally, the Kilobyte Award ($500) is a small but mighty boost for strong applicants who were not selected for the main awards but still show promise in STEM.
To apply, tell us about yourself, including what experiences shaped you, what drives your passion for your field, and when you have shown leadership or service. Additionally, tell us how the program you’re pursuing will help you achieve your goals and how you will use your education to make a difference. Uploading a resume and/or a letter of recommendation is optional, but encouraged.

James Alan Cox Photojournalism Scholarship Deadline: November 15, 2025-Amount of scholarship $2,500
Type of Awards:
-
Five (5) $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to five (5) college or technical school students, payable to their school. Four awards will be for video work while one will be for still photography.
-
One (1) $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to one (1) graduate student, payable to their school, for video work.
-
Five (5) Digital SLR Cameras will be awarded to five (5) high school students. (High school applicants should only submit still photographs. The video awards are for college and graduate students only.)
Focus of work and entries: PHOTOJOURNALISM. (Please see the 2022 or previous years’ scholarship recipients to view examples of winning videos and photographs.) Scholarships will be awarded to those students whose work “tells a story”. This is a fairly broad topic and may include a variety of subject matter and approaches (breaking news, sporting events, etc.) Please keep in mind that, for the still photography submissions, we are NOT looking for “art” photography.
Suggestions for subject matter: As we emerge from the worldwide COVID pandemic, there are still stories to be told about the effects of illness and isolation, but we are at last able to also focus on other things that are unrelated to the virus. For instance, your video submissions or photo images can relate to stories in your community or school – scenes from a graduation, induction into the military, a scientific experiment, police response to an emergency, sporting events … or even an unsolicited act of kindness such as helping an older person or rescuing a pet. Whichever videos or images you choose, they should be timely, objective, aesthetically interesting and tell a story. In terms of still photography, you may submit individual images that stand alone, or a series of photos related to one topic or story.
Again, we are looking for photojournalism. We are asking you to do a lot with this application – write an essay and send us your transcript and letters of reference – so if you are submitting still photos, please don’t ruin your chances of being considered by entering images of flowers, glamour shots or kittens – no matter how adorable they may be.

Student OpEd SCholarship
Deadline: November 15, 2024- Amount of scholarship $5,000
The Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure (Aii) is excited to announce a fall 2024 scholarship for college students. The contest is open to all enrolled college students nationwide and seeks to engage America’s greatest rising minds to think about and articulate solutions to some of the nation’s most pressing challenges.
Aii presents students with three essay prompts and invites students to choose one. To enter the contest, students will write a well-reasoned and well-supported opinion column (like an OpEd) and submit it to a local, state, or national publication of your choosing. Once you’ve done so, upload a hyperlink to the published article or send in proof of a good faith effort to get your article placed.
Who is Aii?
The Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure (Aii) is the only national public policy think tank dedicated solely to infrastructure. Aii is a nonpartisan, independent research and educational organization with a mission to help foster innovative solutions to current and future infrastructure challenges. An innovative think tank, Aii explores the intersection of economics, law, and public policy in the areas of climate, damage prevention, energy, infrastructure, innovation, technology, and transportation. The Alliance consists of two non-profits, the National Infrastructure Safety Foundation (NISF) 501(c)(4) and the Public Institute for Facility Safety (PIFS) 501(c)(3). Both non-profits consist of volunteer boards of directors who legally govern the Alliance. These boards also work in conjunction with the Alliance’s own volunteer Advisory Council.
This is the first scholarship contest run by Aii since our founding. Education has always been integral to what we do, and we believe this is an outgrowth of that vision. We challenge students to read and engage with dynamic research and reports to arrive at their own original arguments. Not only will they learn in the process, but they will advance the learning process by showcasing their ideas for others.
We are eager for students to take advantage of this opportunity to raise their voice and compete in the nationwide marketplace of ideas. By using an OpEd style contest, we are encouraging students to make a difference, speak up, and show their local policymakers and the country how we can leverage innovation and existing infrastructure to solve problems.
This contest not only provides students an opportunity to compete against their peers, but the chance to earn scholarship funds. Three finalists will be named and their work promoted, with 1st place earning $5,000, 2nd place earning $1,000, and 3rd place earning $500. Select runner-ups may also have their work highlighted to our nationwide audience of industry leaders and policymakers.
Eligibility
- This contest is open to all currently enrolled college students across the United States. Students will have until October 15 to write out a well-sourced, original argument on one of three prompts and attempt to place it in a newspaper or similar publication.
- Open to all enrolled college students, including graduate students
- One entry per student.
- Contest will run from September 1 to November 15. Entries must be made by 11:59pm ET
- Students are encouraged to get started as soon as they can, but Aii will only evaluate submissions made during this period

Deadline: November 30, 2024-Amount of scholarship $1,000
Pontius Tax Law, PLLC is a proud supporter of U.S. Veterans. The firm's founder, John Pontius, is a Veteran himself and is committed to honoring the men and women who have served our country. Attorney Pontius started practicing law in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps with the 1st Armored Division in Germany and was later deployed to Iraq. Attorney Pontius also has experience supervising the IRS-sponsored military Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in Germany. There he managed eight employees and ensured quality control of over 2,000 federal and 700 state tax returns for members of the military service.
Due to Attorney Pontius' close ties to the military, he has decided to create a scholarship specifically for Veterans or for the child of a U.S. Veteran. Pontius Tax Law believes Veterans are owed a huge debt for the service they do for our country. We are looking to hear from Veterans, or the children of Veterans on ways that we as a community could better support Veterans. We are also looking to hear how being a Veteran or child of a Veteran has impacted your life and/or changed your views. The deadline for this $1,000 scholarship is November 30, 2024. If you are Veteran or a child of Veteran, please be sure to apply!

Regional judging
At the regional level, the process is repeated. The regional chair arranges for all of the essays referred from local chapters to be judged a second time. Regional judges rank the local winners and nominate the best essays for regional and national awards. These essays are then forwarded to the National Scholarship Chairs.
National judging
Finally, the National Scholarship Chairs conduct additional rounds of judging to select the regional and national winners. Each applicant can receive only one Mensa Foundation scholarship per year; therefore, the winners are chosen beginning at the highest dollar amounts. The next highest scores receive awards of the next lower amounts, and so on until all the winners are chosen based on the judges' scores.
The final list of scholarship winners is presented to the Mensa Foundation Board of Trustees, who certify the winners. Winners are notified by mail and given instructions for claiming their award. They are required to submit proof of registration in a degree program during the following academic year as well as proof of U.S. citizenship. After the verification is received, the checks are written and students receive the funds to help them pursue their education.

The Trustees and Members of the Foundation, mindful of the significance of the important event in our nation’s history that occurred at Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, believe that if our country is to continue to progress, we must have thoroughly trained, dedicated young people to carry on our government’s work in future years.
Each interested student is invited to write a one-page essay stating why he or she plans a career in government service including any inspiration to be derived from the leadership of George Washington in his famous crossing of the Delaware. This essay must be accompanied by a recommendation from the high school principal or guidance counselor evaluating the student’s achievements, along with transcripts, national testing scores, and other supporting information of the applicant’s choice as described in the Official Rules.
We award a variety of scholarships every year. Each scholarship will be paid, as long as the student meets the requirements of the college chosen. Students planning to attend one of the Military Academies or who have been awarded full four-year tuition scholarships will be eligible for an award.
We invite you to explore our website, which contains all of the information candidates should require to prepare and submit an application, including:

This year, HTC will assist by in taking applications for the Tour. This year’s annual event is scheduled for June 2 – June 6, 2025.
